Project

EL (English Literacy) Civics Online Courses

In collaboration with The Adult Learning Resource Center (ALRC) in Arlington Heights, Illinois, CAL managed this project to develop online courses, tutorials, and content modules to help EL/Civics teachers working with adults learning english develop effective language instruction. Modules include U.S. History, U.S. Government, Civic Engagement, and Naturalization.

Four Content Courses

U.S. History
Explains how historical turning points affected our country’s development and shows ways to relate historical content to what students already know.

U.S. Government
Shows the workings of the U.S. Government, explains the major documents that form the basis of the government, and makes connections between the government and students’ daily lives.

Civic Engagement
Develops strategies for increasing students’ awareness of and involvement in their communities.

The Naturalization Process
Outlines skills students need to pass the citizenship interview and tests and demonstrates effective classroom practices.
