The National Dual Language Immersion Research Alliance

The National Dual Language Immersion Research Alliance (Alliance) is a network of K-12 practitioners and education researchers. The mission of the Alliance is to advance quality and build capacity in additive dual language learning programs by identifying core features and variables for quality implementation to prepare students to be bilingual, biliterate, bicultural, and career and college-ready.

The Alliance is positioned to address the research and policy relevant issues that can ensure long-term success for this important intervention strategy.

The Alliance seeks to develop and carry out a rigorous research agenda on topics that matter to all schools involved in, or planning to be involved in, dual language learning. The Alliance will advance equity and excellence in education by providing credible, nonpartisan research and evidence about policies and practices that promote student success.

The Alliance is administratively housed at the American Councils Research Center (ARC) at American Councils for International Education and is led by ARC’s Co-Director Dr. Robert Slater, a highly experienced researcher and project director.

Massachusetts Association of Bilingual Education (MABE)

The Massachusetts Association for Bilingual Education is a professional non-profit organization of individuals whose purpose is to promote bilingualism and multiculturalism as assets that provide cognitive, social, emotional, educational, and employment advantages for all students. The Director of Advocacy and Extension Activities at MABE is Phyllis Hardy, who is also contributing to the upcoming third edition of the Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education.

Dual Language Education of New Mexico

Dual Language Education of New Mexico (DLeNM) is a grass-roots educational non-profit organization serving the professional and informational needs of New Mexican communities who wish to develop, refine and/or implement dual language education programs.

DLeNM works with lower socio-economic communities in New Mexico, who struggle to close the achievement gap while developing linguistic and socio-cultural capital of their communities. David Rogers is the Executive Director of DLeNM and is a member of the NDLF Advisory Committee.

Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL)

The Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) is a private, non-profit organization founded in 1959. Headquartered in Washington DC, CAL has earned an international reputation for its contributions to the fields of bilingual and dual language education, English as a second language, world languages education, language policy, assessment, immigrant and refugee integration, literacy, dialect studies, and the education of linguistically and culturally diverse adults and children.

The mission of the Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) is to promote language learning and cultural understanding by serving as a trusted source for research, services, resources, and policy analysis.

Through its work, CAL seeks solutions to issues involving language and culture as they relate to access and equity in education and society around the globe.

CAL serves as the coordinating organization for activities of the National Dual Language Forum (NDLF) working in collaboration with our board, NDLF Advisory Committee Members, Organizational Members and Individual Members. Joel Gómez serves as the chair of the NDLF Advisory Committee with José Medina serving as Director of the NDLF for the Center for Applied Linguistics. Serving on the NDLF Advisory Committee are M. Beatriz Arias, Donna Christian, and Fred Genesee. Gene García and Guadalupe Valdés also serve as senior advisors for CAL on issues related to dual language education.

CARLA is one of the U.S. Department of Education's Title VI National Language Resource Centers, whose role is to improve the nation's capacity to teach and learn foreign languages. A longstanding initiative at CARLA focuses on advancing research and practice in dual language and immersion education.

CARLA’s mission is to study multilingualism and multiculturalism, to develop knowledge of second language acquisition, and to advance the quality of second language teaching, learning, and assessment by:

conducting research and action projects
sharing research-based and other forms of knowledge across disciplines and education systems

California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE)

The California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE) is a non-profit organization incorporated in 1976 to promote bilingual education and quality educational experiences for all students in California. CABE's Chief Executive Officer is Jan Gustafson Corea, who is also a member of the NDLF Advisory Committee.

CABE has 5,000 members and a total of over 30 chapters, affiliates, and partnerships with other state and national advocacy organizations, all working to promote equity and student achievement for students with diverse cultural, racial, and linguistic backgrounds. CABE recognizes and honors the fact that we live in a rich multicultural, global society and that respect for diversity makes us a stronger state and nation.

The BUENO Center promotes and advocates for equitable education for culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) learners, families, and the educators that serve them. We believe that equity and social justice advance education and improve lives and communities. To this end, we conduct relevant and timely research focused on bilingual, multicultural, and special education from early childhood through adulthood. We facilitate comprehensive professional learning from GED to Ph.D. as well as professional development opportunities for practitioners and educational leaders.

Association of Two-Way and Dual Language Education (ATDLE)

The Association of Two-Way & Dual Language Education (ATDLE), a leading national organization, promotes highly effective Two-Way Bilingual Immersion and Dual Language educational programs that further multilingualism, academic success and the development of cross cultural competencies for all students.
