Putting It All Together

You have completed Understanding Assessment: A Guide for World Language Educators!

Now that we have looked at the guiding principles of validity, reliability, practicality, and impact, we now move to how to transfer this knowledge to select the best test. Let’s consider a few questions:

  • What type of test do I need most?
  • Do I have the necessary resources for the test I select?
  • Will this test give me the information I need about my students?
  • How can I convince my colleagues that a particular test is right for our students?

The next section introduces a fillable Needs Assessment, which will help you apply what you have learned in selecting your own test, as well as downloadable checklists for selecting and administering assessments.

After filling out the Needs Assessment, you will be redirected to a list of resources, including a glossary of terms and links to other resources, for further exploration of concepts introduced in this tutorial.
