Scenario B – Sample Response
Imagine you were in Ania’s position. Why is a proficiency-based approach to assessment helpful in this situation?
- In this situation, a proficiency-based approach is helpful for many reasons. When working with a group of learners who have such a variety of backgrounds and abilities, this approach would help me align instruction with my students’ diverse needs. This approach also would provide students with different opportunities to demonstrate what they can do in the language and would help them recognize and celebrate their progress over time, which is essential for heritage language learners who are so personally invested in their language learning.
